Jul 07, 2001 - South Sound Speedway

During the practice session on this very warm Saturday afternoon, the #35 car had serious problems with tires and shocks. The #30 car driven by Angela, was having some problems with the rear axle. Between practices, the two pit crews worked feverously to make the changes to put these two cars on the track in satisfactory condition.

This is the second race that the TWIN MOTOR SPORTS race team has ran two cars.

At qualifying we were very excited at the qualifying positions; the #30 car, with Angela at the wheel, qualified in 10th with a time of 14.73 and Amber in the #35 car in 7th with a time of 14.63, 1/10th faster than Angela and 6/10th's off the pole position. This was the first race at South Sound Speedway for Angela.

As the race started, the ZNETIX Chevrolet Monte Carlo team was holding their positions and advancing through the field. By lap 9, the #35 car driven by Amber was in the 3rd position. The race was riddled with caution flags from the start of the race. By lap 11, the #35 car was pushing up the track, during a caution, Amber tagged the car in front of her damaging the left front fender, then under the restart, Amber thought she had a tire going down and brought the car into the pits for a quick check and sent her back out. As she proceeded onto the track, two cars coming out of turn 4 touched each other and sent the outside car into the #35 car damaging the car beyond repair.

Meanwhile, the #30 car was moving up, by lap 23 Angela was in 5th position with a loose car. On lap 53, the "0" car was holding up the field, she was "paint brushing" the track from low to high; out of turn 4, the impatient field tried to advance on the "0" car; the #11 car tried to make a move making contact with the #30 ZNETIX Chevrolet Monte Carlo and sent her spinning into the infield. Angela radioed that the car would not start, so a push start was required; meanwhile loosing track positions. Angela went down one lap on that spin. The car continued to be loose throughout the remaining race. Angela managed to keep the car on the track and finished in the 11th position and Amber in 20th.

We feel that the learning curve is coming along very nicely. Crew Chief Al is happy that the girls are able to relate to him and Darren how the car is handling.
