May 18, 2002 - South Sound Speedway
Our second race of the season provided to be more promising than the first with warmer temperatures. The MILGARD MANUFACTURING car driven by Amber qualified in the 8th spot at a 14.90. Angela in the TRANS TECH ELECTRIC car, qualified at a 15.03 putting her in 11th place with a field of 18 cars.
When the green flag dropped, Amber immediately starting moving up, by lap 10, she was in 6th place. Meanwhile, Angela had her hands full in trying to pass the #75 car. But before she could get by the #75 car, Ray Wallace in the #34 car got into the back of her, spinning her around. When the car wouldn't re-fire, it put Angela down a lap. On lap 25, Amber was still running in 6th place. Then on lap 32, Angela, on the restart, drove in to hard and spun the #75 car. The Official's were not happy with Angela, and black flagged her, putting her in the back of the pack. Amber in the MILGARD MANUFACTURING car on lap 33, under a yellow, was posting to much heat in the motor and had to park it for the first heat. After looking at Amber's problem, we found a wiring problem with the fan, and had her ready for the second heat.
At 10:00 p.m., the second 50 lap main began with both girls in their respective Chevrolet Monte Carlo's starting in 13th and 14th. When the green flag dropped, both girls showed they had good, fast race cars! Angela, in the #30 TRANS TECH car started picking the cars off, while Amber was trying to stay up with her sister in the #30 MILGARD car. By the end of the race, Angela had moved her TRANS TECH ELECTRIC car up into 5th place while Amber in her MILGARD MANUFACTURING car came home in 7th place.
Amber had to make sure that she didn't bring the MILGARD car back in one piece, with 2 laps to go, she bounced it off the wall on the front stretch. Angela did receive the "Hard Charger" award for moving up the most positions for the evening. Great job Amber and Angela!
