Jul 03, 2004 - Yakima Speedway
Our third run so far at Yakima Speedway on the Fourth of July weekend. Temperatures exceeding 85 degrees, another hot day at the races! There was a total of eleven cars on the starting grid.
Practice for the #35 car went fairly well, running consistent lap times of 19.70's on old tires. Angela felt that the car was pretty much perfect for her and wanted to make no adjustments. For the #30 car, they were running laps of 19.80 and 19.90 with the car loose. Making just a few adjustments for the next practice session. We had the exact same setup as we ran the last time here at Yakima Speedway, we didn't change a thing!
Qualifying came around and Amber being the fourth car out ran a 19.09 on her first lap. The crew was happy with Amber's performance, for that was the quickest time she has run at Yakima Speedway, she qualified 9th. Angela being the eight car out to qualify, ran a lap time of 19.24 setting her in the 10th qualifying position, she was fighting a loose car. Fast time today at Yakima was a 18.59.
Angela started pole in the "B Trophy" dash and Amber third. Angela took the lead and lead all four laps winning the dash! Good job Angela!
The race started with a complete invert of the eleven car field, putting Angela off pole and Amber in the third position on the starting grid. Crew Chief Darren and Alan, they decided that it would be best to just move to the back of the field so that if we were off the pace we could come in and make quick adjustments.
As the green flag dropped, everybody checked up (keep in mind it was a total invert) along with Amber who ran into the back of the #37 car, and rolled up the nose and spun out on the front straight away, and in front of her a huge crash in turn one! This was going to be a long night! They re-started the race, this time with minor bumping. Amber was running off the pace with a loose car and pulled into the pits to discover a problem with rear-end. Angela was still hanging in there and looked like she had a fast car, but she got stuck behind the #33 car for forty seven laps and finally got a good run and passed the guy! Soon after that Angela cut a tire down from debris on the track and had to come in for a quick pit stop. Crew guys running to help fix the tire and noticed we were missing the nut that holds the sway bar up! She got back on the track 10 to 15 laps down! With only a few laps left of the race, Angela stayed with the car and finished in eighth and Amber in tenth.
