Jun 05, 2004 - Yakima Speedway

The "Smackdown 100" at Yakima Speedway fielded a total of 24 cars Saturday night with unlimited restrictions with the exception that you had to exceed a total of at least 2800 pounds! At the last minute the "Trans Tech Electric" team decided to run at Yakima due to weather issues at Tenino Speedway. The team worked late hours trying to get everything ready for an early Saturday morning track time.

We got to the track at 9:30 am, got unloaded at 12:00 pm, and practice started at 2:00 and went till 5:00. Practice didn't go as well as we would have liked it to. We struggled with the cars a little bit. Angela's car during practice was very loose. We made many changes to try and tighten the car up, such as playing the shocks, the track bar, and sway bar! But it still seemed to be loose. Amber, on the other hand, was fighting the opposite, tight and loose! With both crew chiefs, Al and Darren, they were the ones who were calling the shots. Angela and Amber were clocked at 19.50's and 19.60's on old tires in there practice sessions and were not happy with their performance! The twins crew chiefs weren't really sure what the deal was, they were kind of wondering if taking a little of the weight out of the cars made it worse even though we weren't able to take much out due to left side weight. The last practice we scuffed new tires, Angela dropped 3/10th's off her time but Amber was still running 19.50's; not any better than with old tires on.

During qualifing, Angela went out and ran a 19.80 the first lap, her second lap she knocked down a 19.17!! Wow, she gained 6/10th's over the early practice sessions! Amber went out and ran a 19.60 her first lap and a 19.19 on the second lap; they were dialed in, and the team was extremely happy! Fast time for the day was an 18.33.

The line up on the grid for Amber and Angela was 16th and 17th and when the green flag dropped, they were off. Amber dropped back and on lap 20 Amber came in for a pit stop to try and free up the car but unfortunately with little success and finished up the race in 14th. Angela moved forward, also fighting the car and finished in 13th.
